Job Description:
The purpose of the School Certifying Official is to manage a caseload of veterans using veterans benefits. The part-time school-certifying official will work in the Office of the Military and Veterans Services, reporting to the Director.
Duties and Tasks:
Responsible for performing duties of school certifying official (reporting enrollment to VA)
Complying with Department of Veteran Affairs program requirements, federal and state regulations, and college policies as it relates to program compliance and processing enrollment certification.
Responsible for advising veteran students in their declared major and answering benefits questions as it relates to using veteran benefits, i.e. Post 911 benefits, with other eligible veteran education benefits
Respond to inquiries from veteran students and eligible dependents of Veterans.
Answer benefits and enrollment questions via telephone, email, and online chat.
Perform records auditing functions daily for yearly compliance surveys.
Work collaboratively with the Director of Military and Veterans Services.
Employees must reside in Virginia, Maryland or the District of Columbia.
Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA’s/Required Qualifications
Required KSAs:
Knowledge about military and veterans benefits.
Ability to establish goals and priorities and make decisions based on program and institutional policies.
Ability to interpret and explain academic, administrative, and veteran policies.
Ability to provide veteran students with accurate information as it relates to GI Bill benefits and other veteran-eligible education benefits.
Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing with strong customer service skills.
Flexibility and motivation to learn new systems.
Ability to report enrollment changes to the Department of Veterans Affairs using Enrollment Manager.
Minimum Requirements:
Experience with veterans programs and procedures in a higher education setting.
Experience with customer service.
Experience with understanding military benefits/reporting changes in enrollment to the Department of Veterans Affairs using VA Once or Enrollment Manager
