Job Description: A virtual School Social Worker provides essential support to students, families, and school staff through virtual platforms, focusing on mental health, social-emotional development, crisis intervention, and overall well-being.
Responsibilities:
Provide Virtual Counseling and Support:
• Conduct individual and group therapy sessions with students via video conferencing platforms (Zoom).
• Offer emotional support and mental health counseling for students dealing with stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, or behavioral issues.
Conduct Assessments and Develop Treatment Plans:
• Assess students’ social, emotional, and behavioral needs through virtual interviews, surveys, and observations.
• Develop individualized treatment plans that address students’ unique challenges and goals, ensuring alignment with school policies.
Collaborate with School Staff and Families:
• Work closely with teachers, school administrators, and other staff members to support students’ academic and emotional development.
• Provide consultation and training for staff on issues related to student well-being, mental health, and behavior management.
Create and Facilitate Social-Emotional Learning Programs:
• Develop and implement virtual social-emotional learning (SEL) programs or workshops to help students build coping skills, emotional intelligence, and resilience.
Provide Crisis Intervention and Safety Planning:
• Respond to emergencies and provide crisis intervention services, including de-escalation techniques and immediate support.
Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) from a CSWE-accredited program.
• School Social Worker Certificate from the Michigan Department of Education.
• Pass the MTTC School Social Work exam.
• Completion of a school-based internship as part of MSW.
• Criminal background check.
• Continuing education for certification renewal every five years.
