We are currently seeking:
An accounting clerk to join our team. In this role, you will perform a variety of routine technical and clerical accounting functions; provide customer service to the public; process payments, cash receipts, and returned checks; perform data entry; update and maintain accounting records; and perform other related duties as assigned.
Your responsibilities will include:
• Recording and maintaining various cash reports and spreadsheets
• Answering and directing incoming calls; responding to general inquiries
• Assisting with billing, reports and related spreadsheets as needed
• Receiving, processing, and posting a variety of payments
• Verifying and recording daily cash receipts from City departments
• Reconciling processed deposits to daily bank deposit
• Processing returned checks for City departments
• Performing data entry, inputting job order information, updating and maintaining billing records
• Processing and distributing incoming mail

Requirements and Skills:
• Performing routine technical and clerical accounting duties
• Creating and changing letters in Microsoft Word
• Creating and using formulas in spreadsheets using Microsoft Excel
• Providing customer service at the front counter and via telephone
• Receiving, verifying, processing and posting payments and cash receipts
• Balancing and maintaining cash assignments
• Performing accurate data entry
• Using a calculator by touch
• Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with other staff, City departments, outside agencies, and the public
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalent; AND one-year clerical experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Licenses or Certifications:
• Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License
• Applicants with an out-of-state driver license must provide an original certified driving record from the state of driving licensure.
Required Knowledge:
• Standard cash handling procedures
• Basic accounting and bookkeeping principles
• Customer service standards and protocol
• General office equipment
• Standard office software applications
Physical Demands / Work Environment:
• Working in a standard office environment and at the front counter
• Sitting, standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting of objects up to 20 pounds
