Job Summary:
The Assistant Store Manager assists in maintaining a clean, well-organized store with a customer-first focus. Under the direction of the Store Manager, this role supervises employees, manages merchandise, completes paperwork, and prepares deposits. The Assistant Store Manager also handles stocking and cashiering, along with other duties to maximize profitability and customer satisfaction, while protecting company assets.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide exceptional customer service by greeting and assisting customers, operating cash registers, and itemizing purchases.
• Open and close the store at least twice a week.
• Assist Store Manager with employee scheduling, training, safety meetings, and ensuring compliance with policies.
• Follow processes to manage merchandise, including receiving, unpacking, stocking, restocking, and rotating products.
• Maintain accurate inventory levels by controlling damages, markdowns, and conducting facility checks.
• Implement and maintain planograms to ensure merchandise is displayed per company standards.
• Ensure financial integrity through cashier accountability, key control, and adherence to cash control procedures.
• Authorize refunds and overrides, count tills, and deposit money at the bank.
• Manage the store in the Store Manager’s absence.
Qualifications:
Skills Required:
• Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
• Problem-solving abilities to address various situations.
• Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
• Ability to read and interpret diagrams, safety rules, and procedures manuals.
• Proficient in performing mathematical calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages).
• Competent in cash register functions and generating reports.
• Knowledge of cash handling, facility, and safety control practices.
Education/Experience:
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• One year of retail experience with six months of supervisory experience is preferred.
Working Conditions:
• Frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, and kneeling.
• Regular handling of merchandise and equipment, including handheld scanners, pricing guns, box cutters, dollies, U-boats, and rolltainers.
• Lifting up to 40 pounds regularly, occasionally up to 55 pounds.
• Occasional climbing (step ladder) up to six feet.
• Fast-paced environment with moderate noise.
• Occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
• Driving for bank deposits and store management meetings as needed.
