THE POSITION

Impart your landscape design and horticulture knowledge to inmates The Department of Corrections is seeking a dedicated Building Trade and Construction Occupation Trades Teacher – Corrections with experience in Landscape Design and Horticulture to join our staff at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Dallas. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Building Trade and Construction Occupation Trades Teacher, you will be responsible for developing and adapting curriculum, course outlines, lesson plans, and instructional methodology in teaching vocational education courses in Landscape Design and Horticulture for inmates at SCI Dallas. Your work will involve separating known trade or vocational skills into teaching units to provide instruction and training to inmates. Your duties will include evaluating inmate potential, achievement, and progress by administering standardized and teacher-constructed tests, as well as grading inmate progress in both theory and occupational competence. You will also monitor inmate behavior and maintain an effective learning environment and security of instructional materials. Additionally, you will complete records, reports, and forms related to the operation of classes and the evaluation of inmate performance.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
• Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
• Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday – Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
• This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
• Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $63, before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
• Education equivalent to high school graduation and two years wage earning experience beyond the completed apprenticeship period in the specified parenthetical; or
• If there is no approved apprenticeship period for the specified parenthetical, education equivalent to high school graduation and three years of wage earning experience in the specified parenthetical.
• Please Note: The specified parenthetical for this posting is Landscape Design/Horticulture. The specific apprenticeship period for this parenthetical is 2 years.

Special Requirements:
• Possession of or eligibility for a current Pennsylvania Department of Education Vocational Certificate I or II for the specified parenthetical; or
• Possession of or eligibility for a current Pennsylvania Department of Education Vocational Intern Certificate for the specified parenthetical; or
• Eligibility for a Pennsylvania Department of Education Emergency Certificate for the specified parenthetical.

Other Requirements:
• Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.

• You must be able to perform essential job functions.
