Job Title: Database Administrator and Shift Leader – 3rd Shift Position
Location: Remote (Chicago preferred)
Duration: PERM
Comp: $100-120k
Shift: Thurs-Sun 12am-8am CDT

• MUST BE WILLING TO WORK OVERNIGHT SHIFT (3rd SHIFT)
• Desired, but not required: Prior experience with network devices, compute, and storage software and hardware. If no prior experience, must be willing to dive in and learn.

A day in the life
• Provide Shift Leadership for a team of US and offshore engineers, ensuring all high priority issues are: Validated, Communicated, Mitigated, Assigned for Resolution
• Respond to Global Support Center tickets in a timely manner
• Troubleshoot and triage tickets in queue
• Follow documentation and handling instructions
• Know when to escalate critical issues
• Speak clearly and confidently with clients and internal staff
• Work well in stressful situations
• Drive innovation and continuous process improvement to perform more efficiently for our customers and company stakeholders.

What we are looking for
• Minimum of an Bachelors degree in a related field
• 3-8 years in database administration with Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server. Other database technologies is a plus.
• Familiarity with high-availability designs, including Oracle DataGuard and/or SQL Server AlwaysOn
• Experience with backup solutions, including Oracle RMAN, and replication concepts, preferably Golden Gate
• Understand Oracle RAC and ASM, Exadata experience is a plus
• Ability to multi-task while maintaining high quality of deliverables
• Experience working within Service Management toolsets a must
• Monitor system health and performance
• Performance troubleshooting and resolution
• Analyze, solve, and correct issues in real time
• Experience working with Windows servers and Unix/Linux
• Experience using vi editor
• Flexible, team player, get-it-done personality
• Ability to work in a rapidly changing environment

Example of tasks to be performed
• Providing process guidance and leadership to shift team
• Adding space to an Oracle tablespace
• Troubleshoot Oracle archiver issues
• Resolve blocking locks, long running sessions, and/or deadlocks
• Grant permissions and roles in Oracle
• Troubleshoot database down issues
• Escalate server down issues
• Troubleshoot Linux/Unix/Windows resource issues
• Monitor performance, provide resolution and/or articulate status to others
