We are seeking a motivated and engaging instructor to mentor a high school student in a structured, online research-based learning experience. The instructor will help guide the student through the process of experimental design, data interpretation, and manuscript writing, with the ultimate goal of producing a short research-style paper or presentation.
Details:
• Schedule: 1.5 hours per session, 4 times per week for 2 weeks (total: 12 hours)
• Format: Live online sessions via Zoom
• Rate: $75–100 per hour, depending on experience
• Start Date: Flexible, ideally in July and August
Responsibilities:
• Design and lead an engaging mini-curriculum focused on the basics of scientific inquiry and academic writing
• Introduce foundational concepts (e.g., hypothesis, experimental methods, data interpretation)
• Guide the student in topic exploration and structured writing
• Provide feedback on drafts and progress
Qualifications:
• Experience in research and/or academic instruction (postdocs or graduate students with publications)
• Strong communication skills and a passion for teaching
• Experience mentoring teens or teaching at the high school or college level preferred, but not required
• Ability to inspire curiosity and adapt content to the student’s interests and level
