LIRN is hiring part-time staff to expand the team of librarians supporting our Librarian Service.

Library & Information Resources Network (LIRN) is a nonprofit consortium serving organizations with an educational mission. We offer our members unrivaled value for resources, a team of caring library experts, and future-focused technology services.

Today, LIRN serves over 350 schools in 42 states, 3 territories, and 12 nations: negotiating volume pricing discounts for licensed content, providing IT infrastructure for access to that content, offering technical support to ensure that subscriptions are working the way they should, and providing credentialed librarians to serve as or supplement existing librarian staff.

Description

This is a non-exempt, part-time, work from home, full-service librarian position in the state of Florida, United States. This position requires working regularly scheduled shifts early morning weekdays, late night weekdays, and weekend hours US/Eastern time.

Duties include, but are not limited to:
• assisting students and faculty at subscribing member institutions;
• providing trainings via webinars;
• assisting members in identifying resources to support their curricula;
• contributing to activities intended to raise faculty, staff and student awareness of library resources and services;
• curation projects;
• and other duties as assigned.

Additionally, the librarian may assist with:
• compiling usage reports,
• creating instructional and marketing materials,
• and helping to develop ways to better serve members that subscribe to our librarian service and LIRN members in general.

This position requires the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
• Provide online library reference services via ticketing system, email, chat, and GoToMeeting.
• Provide information literacy instruction via virtual meetings and recorded presentations.
• Participate in meetings as appropriate.
• Provide excellent service through courteous, informed, accessible, and professional engagement.
• Comply with all published policies, procedures, guidelines, and laws/regulations governing employees, including but not limited to those related to document retention and destruction, FERPA, and confidentiality.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

To be successful, the required qualifications for this role are:
• A Master’s degree in Library Science/Library and Information Studies from an ALA accredited program
• Preferred candidates have at least 2 years of experience in an academic library
• A full-time resident of the state of Florida

Equipment Requirements

Part-time staff at LIRN are provided with a Macintosh computer and other equipment to perform the requirements of the job. However the candidate’s home office must meet the following requirements:
• A reliable high-speed connection with download speeds of at least 100 megabits per second and upload speeds of at least 10 megabits per second (100/10 Mbps).
• A dedicated/controlled work environment that supports the ability to conduct live presentations via webinar, and participate in video conferences, phone calls, and meetings without disturbances.

• Must be able to remain in a stationary position frequently.
• Constantly operates a computer.
• The person in this position frequently communicates with students, faculty, and staff who have inquiries about their library resources or other details of the librarian service. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.

Compensation

Limited to no more than 30 hours per week.

Hourly Rate of $26.85/hour.

A shift differential pay of $2/hour when working after 5PM, before 8AM, or on weekends. All times US/Eastern
