Brooklyn Public Library Services for Older Adults is seeking applications for our part-time Senior Assistant program. Senior Assistants will provide quality programs for older adults at designated branches of the Brooklyn Public Library (BPL) and at senior sites throughout Brooklyn.
Under the direction of the Services for Older Adults Program Assistant, the Senior Assistant will assist in building meaningful social engagement to Brooklyns diverse 50 + audience. Senior Assistants must be willing to travel to their assigned branch, senior sites, and be available to present programs on the assigned dates. A two to four hour commitment is required for each session. Senior Assistants must also be able to facilitate programs virtually on Zoom,Teams,etc.
Responsibilities
Plan and present programs and activities for older adults, to encourage patron participation and stimulate use of the library including Creative Aging programs, outreach programs, and special events.
Use the selected curriculum to plan and conduct older adults programs for participant 50 + and their caregivers.
Provide feedback to Program Outreach Associate with participation, curriculum, teaching artists and materials
Assist teaching artist at selected Creative Aging program locations; distributing necessary program supplies, collect, store materials at the end of each session, etc.
Gather attendance, surveys, and other relevant information from participants for evaluation
Coordinate & prepare program with the assigned branch or senior site prior to each session.
Communicate regularly and provide feedback with Services for Older Adult team; managing necessary administrative duties such as time-sheets and statistics
Conduct model programs for staff to observe as needed
Promote programs and distribute promotional materials about Services for Older Adults Brooklyn Public Library/Services for Older Adults
Represent Brooklyn Public Library Services for Older Adults at community meetings and outreach activities as required
Utilize connections with BPL resources and other service providers to work with older adults
Facilitate skill building among older adults in areas such as technology, arts, or job search
Other duties as required

Members of the senior community strongly encouraged to apply

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to work as a team, making adjustments to best meets the needs of patrons with and without disabilities.
Desire to work with older adults and people with disabilities
Be relatable to the target demographic being serviced.
Ability to take orders and pay attention to details
Flexibility and willingness to travel
Ability to bend, reach, sit and stand as needed
Computer skills required: email and Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Zoom, Teams, Google Meet, and other virtual platforms
Bilingual language skills preferred including Sign Language, Spanish, Haitian Creole, Cantonese, Mandarin, Bengali, Urdu, Polish and Russian
This is a part-time position. Hours for this position are up to 10 hours per week at $15 per hour.
