About the position
The Safety Management System (SMS) Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) Specialist II at Alaska Airlines is responsible for supporting the SMS and ASAP programs. This role involves facilitating meetings, processing reports, tracking action items, and providing subject matter expertise based on FAA guidelines. The specialist will promote safety assurance and risk management, conduct safety risk assessments, analyze safety data, and communicate findings to senior management. The position requires strong collaboration with various stakeholders, including the FAA and union representatives, to enhance safety practices within the organization.
Responsibilities
• Facilitate the ASAP program and Event Review Committee (ERC) meetings.

• Process reports and track action items related to safety management.

• Provide subject matter expertise on program requirements and procedures based on FAA guidelines.

• Lead the ERC to consensus as necessary.
,
• Maintain good working relationships within AAG, the FAA, and with union representatives.

• Promote SMS by developing tools and techniques that strengthen safety assurance and risk management.

• Perform Safety Risk Management (SRM) assessments of ineffective risk controls and new hazards.
,
• Conduct continuous analysis of ASAP data to identify trends and safety concerns.
,
• Serve as the primary focal point for tracking, analyzing, and communicating ASAP metrics.

• Prepare analyses of ASAP reports and advise the ERC of safety trends for corrective action recommendations.

• Conduct training for new ERC members.
Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in any field of study or equivalent foreign degree; or 2 years of aviation or safety experience in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree.

• 2 years of aviation experience, including leading meetings with various audiences.
,
• 2 years of experience promoting safety reporting and knowledge of SMS practices.
,
• 2 years of experience performing analysis of safety data and presenting trends to senior management.
,
• 2 years of experience conducting training.
,
• 2 years of experience conducting Safety Risk Assessments.
